All Pride Aside - Poetry by dmop

Today I lay down my pride.

To hold it leaves my hands tied.

In this world I am humble.

Though sometimes I stumble.

In the darkness that surrounds me.

And the light that abounds thee.

Is as a crimson rain.

My own demon is slain.

By the actions of selflessness.

The hard lesson it teaches us.

To go on is but sure.

But if my heart is not pure.

I will fall by the way.

And not see the new day.

That has been prepared.

And sometimes I feel scared.

I must press on in your name.

As you would the same.

I am weak when I'm tried.

Even all pride aside.

Proud of Myself

I think it is fine to be proud of your accomplishments, as it helps to boost self esteem and keep those depressing thoughts we sometimes feel about ourselves to a minimum. When pride becomes a problem is when we begin to be too sure of our abilities, which leads to arrogance. We think we are capable of things and we aren't afraid to let others know how great we are. I think the dividing line is when we speculate what we could accomplish and boast about it, rather than being subtle in revealing what we have actually accomplished. I think I do a pretty good job of feeling confident in what I can do, while only claiming what I have done. That, in my opinion is a healthy kind of pride that should be cherished and not forgotten, especially on those days when you just feel like nothing is going the way you want it to. All that being said, I have written a poem about pride and how it seems to me from an unambiguous point of view.

About My Poetry

I like to write symbolic poetry, and see what meaning readers get from it to compare their ideas with each others and my own. I'm not even sure how I feel about my own work after hearing the ideas others have about it. It almost always changes my own view of it to some degree. This is a good thing though, as it is strictly symbolic and truly has no definite meaning. So please if you have a thought about any of my poetry drop me a line in the comments section so I can compare ideas. Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my Hub and God Bless.

Poetry is like a snapshot. Looking back or getting input, we can see many things but what is in the photo can never change. Nor should it. It's pure as it's written. An untainted reminder of a time. Whether it connects with its' reader just depends on the reader. I connected. Good poem.

This was great! Pride can be a key in self destruction. Sometimes its hard to put it aside but thats the only way I beleive people can truely find themselves. You put it into a very good perspective.

I have found myself taking too much pride over something, had to backtrack and set things right. Still, as you mentioned, it is good to take note of your accomplishments that you have worked to hard to achieve.

I lived in the midwest most of my growing up years, and I remember going to Brown County park many times. The views from the hills are priceless. Hiking in those hills is an adventure.

teaches12345, thank you so much for reading and commenting. We camped at Brown County last summer, it was a lot of fun. There's a zip-line place there where the kids had a blast. I have been planning to write hub about it, but haven't gotten that far yet. Thanks again and have a great day.
